There are two critical physical elements necessary to complete the site development of the VCU Rice Rivers Center: a state-of-the-art research building and an overnight lodging facility for scientists and students. Completing our development will expand the center’s research capabilities and further our work to address critical environmental issues.
Research laboratory building
A new research laboratory building will stand as the centerpiece of vibrant environmental research at the VCU Rice Rivers Center. This 14,000-square-foot laboratory and office space will dramatically enhance our researchers' ability to conduct their work on-site and will facilitate new collaborations.
Researcher teams will gain needed space and support facilities such as an environmental chemistry analysis laboratory and a geospatial data analysis laboratory.
Meeting space will be available for idea-sharing and regular lectures by guest scientists and environmental managers.
Of the $6.7 million estimated cost, funding is presently at $4.0 million. Please help us reach our goal in 2017!
The Inger Rice Lodge
Dedicated on June 9, 2017, the overnight lodge will allow us to host top international ecologists conducting on-site research or multiday fieldwork excursions. Larger research projects will boost our body of research.
The facility will provide accommodations for up to 24 visiting researchers, students and other groups to stay at the center for days or weeks.
Proper lodging will greatly improve our ability to secure external funding for summer student programs that require overnight facilities. Building elements include bunk rooms and private sleeping accommodations as well as kitchenette, dining and meeting spaces.
